Freedom

"America is mad for liberty. Ours is a free country. We enjoy freedom of speech and of religion, the freedom of the press, and the freedom to bear arms. And rightly so. But though Americans love freedom, many of them have forgotten what it means.

Today many of us assume that freedom means getting to do whatever we want. Any restrictions on our behavior — whether from the state, the church, or some other person — violate our freedom. And, for many of us, freedom above all means the liberty to sin.

But, according to the Bible, this is the opposite of freedom. Sin has nothing to do with liberty. Sin destroys freedom. Sin enslaves." (1)

Part of the inherent fallen desire in mankind to be totally free -

Eve wanted liberty to eat from the forbidden tree.

The Israelites wanted the liberty to have a King like the other pagan nations.

Mankind crucified the son of God to be free.

But Jesus came back. Jesus returned from the dead to give us new freedom in Him. Freedom from Sin, Freedom from the dominion of darkness to Love God and love your neighbor.

So sometimes standing up for freedoms are selfish - from Gods point of view.

Sometimes they are extreme.

Sometimes they are by definition irresponsible.

Sometimes they are hateful - a man during the London raids wanting to have open windows and lights on would be hateful to his neighbors.

Sometimes they are irrational.

Sometimes they are lawless.

We have a different King, a different Law a different Freedom.
