In Twilight Zones "The Silence" episode a talkative man takes the bet of another man in their wealthy club - remain silent for a year and get $500,000 dollars.

One man wanted another silence so he bought it. A mere $500,000. The shocker at the end was a surprise for both - one didn't have the money - one knew he couldn't keep his silence so he cut his vocal nerves.

One knew he couldn't pay so he hoped that the other couldn't keep the bargain. One gave up his right to speak to get a benefit that would in the end not come.

This remind me much of the current Church and politics. We remain silent in hopes to get a something that earthly - no matter the party. And in the case above....

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[a] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:19-21 When we offer silence for earthly reward we cut the same cords that God wants to use to bless others with the Good News. You can't hear the Good News from someone that kept silent by cutting his vocal cords.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear. Matthew 11:15

Prayer for this time...

Grant us, Lord, to hope on your name, which is the primal source of all creation, and open the eyes of our hearts that we may know you,...
